I must be one of the few people in this country who started (rather than ended) this day with a bit too much leftover alcohol in his system. Thanks to a great wedding yesterday I was able to cut off from the rumours and speculations of voting day and the sleep-in this morning extended this moment of momentary bliss. The best man at the wedding tried to vote three times during the day and each time he had to give up due to the long queues. He did manage to vote sometime around 9pm by turning up at the polling station in his suit complete with wasitcoat and tails. Returning to Naxxar he commented “Hallewni nghaddi ghax rawni liebes ta’ imbecilli”. Classic.
I was woken up by the sound of murtali – noise and bangs being a specialist area of party supporters – and crawled to the TV as my brain shouted “Water Water”. Nothing new and I have not got much time to study body language. The Labour rumour has it that there will be a 14K victory. The Nationalist rumour goes for a 3K marginal win. No idea of what the AD rumour is but someone from a Labour side of the grapevine confirmed my suspicions that AD would probably not make it.
I will not be updating you on anything because I have nothing to update you with. I am sure you do not want to hear about my battling a morning hangover or my family’s quest to find a restaurant that is open today. Unless something really interesting happens I am sure that you will agree with me that the place for punditry and blogging will be after results are clear and the analysing can begin.
Now where’s the Alka Seltzer?
