Moderation Reinstated

Thank you.

This is not a discussion forum it is a blog. There are topics and there are comments in line with the topics – even comments which do not agree with my point of view. I could tolerate various ideas about the best way to discuss an issue. I could close an eye to vulgarity and to insults (while condemning them).

Sandro Vella just posted an essay about various facts/non-facts of Daphne’s life. I do not see anything related with the topics currently under discussion. It is useless claiming to respect this blog and its author when then you abuse of the space that is given you. I am sorry but I cannot stand such hypocrisy. J’accuse will not be a vehicle for secondary campaigns which could be very well run on other blogs if they wish to do so.

Sandro’s comment has been censored – removed. You have no idea how much I hate to have to revert to the old system but from now on comment moderation will occur in one hour intervals (as far as is humanly possible). I am sure I will be on the receiving end of much vitriol and criticism. So be it. I cannot give any value to such criticism when the critics were the ones lacking the respect in the first place.

For the record I will cut and paste all censored comments into a separate document which I may or may not publish for all to see later on. In the meantime, in the hope that a civil discussion is resumed comment moderation is back on and I do not give two hoots if those using this blog as bulletin board choose to move elsewhere thus reducing the blog hits to normal figures.

Thanks again.

  3. Though I don’t agree with censorship, I do agree with moderation. You can’t use blogs to spread lies about people and defame them. And where Sandro Vella is concerned, Jacques is correct to play safe: Sandro has already been investigated for malicious defamation and has had at least one police case. I don’t think it is at all safe or even fair to allow him to use this blog for these purposes. And incidentally, it is considered a criminal act, hence the police investigation.

J’accuse note: Having said that it is fair to remind leaders that being investigated for something is not equivalent to being found guilty.

  4. Europarl, hemm hafna affarijiet li tista tikritikah li Jacques u jekk ilek issegwi lil Jacques bizzejjed kienu hafna li kritikawh, fosthom jien. Iva, Jacques ibghati ftit mil-‘prima donna syndrome’ imma dak Jacques, u nhobbuh ghalhekk ukoll. Biss qatt ma zamm lil hadd milli jghid xejn jew zamm lil xi hadd milli jikritikah anki meta ma jaqbilx. Ftakar biss dan hu l-blog tieghu u nipruvaw nuru rispett jekk mhux ghal xulxin, ghalanqas ghalih li provda dan l-ispazzju.

  5. For your information, Sandro Vella is one of the brains behind the Maltafly website.

He is involved in a police investigation simply because Maltafly had interviewed Norman Lowell a few times.

Stop blowing this out of proportion.

  6. I agree … the blog is intended for discussion not for getting personal. If people who don’t agree with this move elsewhere that will only contribute to improving the quality of the discussion.

  7. Oh you evil dictator in Brussels:-) Actually, I owe you several beers, because comment moderation means I will not be tempted to read catfights and instead concentrate on my work 🙂

Sandro Vella’s note: Having said that, the investigation mention by Ms. —– has been cleared years ago. But she did not mention that.

To remain on the blog content: is my investigation related with the topic Jacques? Where is you konsistenza?

  9. COMMENT REMOVED. CONTENT HAS BEEN BEEN PASSED ON TO INTENDED RECIPIENT.

    J’accuse note: Consistency?

  10. Jacques,

f’isem il-hbiberija taghna nippretendi li dil-haga tal-pulizija la issa rawha hafna nies u inti hallejtha tigi pubblikata f’sitwazzjoni ta’ moderation tigi clearjatha darba ghal dejjem.

Jiena kont investigat u l-Imhallfa ma sabet l-ebda prova kontrija. Daphne din mhux issemmiha.

  11. Le hi sur Robert Cefai, jekk dan hu l-Blog tieghu mela jista’ joqghod ihazzez wahdu… u jekk tridu tkomplu mieghu, komplu… jien nghid ghalija ma niktibx fuq blogs bil-moderator u c-censura.

L-unika censura ghandha tkun meta jkunu kummenti malafamanti – mhux ghax sangru talab il-bews ta! Imma jekk per ezempju nghid li int wettaqt frodi fil-kunsill ta’ Ras Kawlata – gidba b’intenzjoni li taghmel il-hsara.

Mil-bqija, kull min jiddandan biex jikteb kumment ghandu jlesti biex jaqla go fih minghajr ma jmur jaghmel l-akkuzi ghand in nanny state police.

Fejn hi l-maturita fi Blog immoderat (read Political Correctness). Darba fl’X.com gejt iccensurat ghax ktibt kontra l-Istat – iiiiii, kontra l-istat? x’arukaza…

Hudu pjacir, hadt gost iltqajt maghkom.

J’accuse note: It’s been emotional. Feel free to come back whenever you want. Otherwise I am sure that whoever agrees with your style of discussion can log on to http://www.maltafly.com . Isn’t that right?

  12. “I do not see anything related with the topics currently under discussion. It is useless claiming to respect this blog and its author when then you abuse of the space that is given you.”

You censored me for posting something about Daphne’s life which is based on true facts.

Why did not you censor her when afterwards she did the same thing on a half-truth platform?

Yes, consistency. What does my past has relevant with the topic you opened?

  13. Keith, for your info-mation, Sangru, m’ghandux x’jaqsam mal-Maltafly (ghad illi m’ghandi xej kontra Sangru Villa)

    u issa caw ta veru

  14. Jacques,

ghaliex iccensurajtli l-isfida li jiena ghamilt lil Daphne?

    Trid niktibha b’izjed mod edukat?

    Ghaziza Daphne,

jekk ghandek il-kuragg. Dak li qed tikteb dwar il-kaz tal-pulizija fuq l-internet iktbu wkoll fuq il-gazzetta.

    Dejjem ovvjament, jekk ghandek il-kuragg.

    Dejjm tieghek,

    Sandro Vella

  15. Sounds like a reasonable challenge to me.

    Well, will you accept, DCG?

PS. You will find hand-cleaning facilities in the ladies room…

  16. Malcolm Buttigieg

    James, who is DCG?

  17. to be fair – there is a distinction between moderation and censorship. I’ve been reading this blog since 2005, and I don’t remember Jacques ever censoring a comment… even on “The Malta Chronicle” – more often than not I am the one who would refrain from posting…

But sometimes moderation is necessary, and I think that in the last few days it has become a must… although Athena is right; the cat fights will be missed

  18. Jacques, I agree with your decision to enforce some moderation on this blog. I’ve been reading your blog for the past few years and while I appreciate the participation of most of the new contributors, reading blog lately has sometimes seemed like I was on the GKNK website.

  19. “And where Sandro Vella is concerned, Jacques is correct to play safe.”

    You failed here Daphne.

  20. No, Keith, you are completely wrong about the nature of the police investigation and ensuing court case against Alessandro Vella. The case was about the spreading of extremely malicious and false ‘information’ against two prominent media personalities, through the use of the Internet.

  21. This blog is really attracting the full spectrum. Now we have James Cauchi, the Norman Lowell candidate. Anyone here who is from AN? You’re the only ones missing.

J’accuse note: I have nothing against attracting the full spectrum. I just hope that people understand the difference between blogs and fora. The underlying point is that a blog discusses issues that are triggered off from a personal perspective – a forum has multiple discussion threads. I did not choose to open the latter and I opt for a standard blog. I have problems with people who do not understand the concept of a blog.

  22. Yes, Keith.

The Ms. B.B. revealed my secret. Oh poor me.

My case and sentence were online since May 2005.

    Daphne guilty of libel

    Tue, 02 October 2007

Daphne Caruana Galizia, a columnist from Bidnija, was ordered to pay the former journalist of London’s Financial Times Lm300, after she was found guilty of partial libel.

In a newspaper article on ‘The Malta Independent on Sunday’ in 2004, Caruana Galizia alleged that Grima has no journalistic experience and was not qualified to be commissioned by the Nationalist Party to analyse the 2004 electoral defeat.

In court, Grima proved that the allegation was false by explaining his vast experience in journalism, including his work with international newspapers.

Magistrate Silvio Meli stated that Caruana Galizia attacked Grima by undermining his reputation with allegations she never managed to prove. He asked her to pay a Lm300 fine and to pay the court fees incurred for the case.

The editor of the newspaper, Noel Farrugia, was also sentenced to pay Lm300.

  23. The “Norman Lowell” candidate? Last time I checked I was contesting as an independent.

While he is a good friend of mine I do not take kindly to having the identity of any individual superimposed upon my own.

You will find hand cleaning facilities down the hall.
