That’s how many new voters will be exercising their right to vote next election. We know this thanks to a much advertised tour of the new vote counting hall in Naxxar. J’accuse was not invited to this tour but we can imagine journalists being shown around the different dockets where every vote will be kept. The guide will probably have pointed out the very good quality of the perspex (you can bang all you like). The highlight of the tour is probably the new coffee canteen where overworked journalists can stop for a rest during the tediously long wait for an electoral result. No smoking in here. The Electoral Commissioner unveiled a new painting in the middle of the counting hall depicting a huge polaroid camera.

The painting, by local artist Rupert Cefai is supposed to represent that most enviable of Maltese electoral results… a photofinish.
