Saturday night and there’s no way I am moving from the house. The big match is on and I am keeping all fingers crossed in the hope that the bianconeri keep their positive march going. In preparation for the big event I braved the snow and the cold (braved is a bit overdoing it) to go do my weekly shopping. Back home and I cooked up a wonderful plate of spaghetti with vongole using a lovely recipe imparted over the internet by LL (who is on the recovery).
I’ve got one question for Fausto… how does BBC iplayer work for you? Isn’t it supposed to be only accessible to people browsing from within the UK? Have you got some trick that will allow us to watch Top Gear et al? Share please.
One last thing. During my last visit on the island I was lucky enough to taste the wondrous excesses that he chef at a particular restaurant in Valletta had to offer. I have toyed with keeping the idea a bit secret until now but I think that it would be cruel. It might not be new to many of you but do not forget that I live abroad… the place is called “Al Mare”. It is still registered as a pizzeria in the Go Mobile directory but believe you me anyone wasting his time eating pizza in that establishment needs to have his head checked. Flock to the place and just dive into his seafood delicacies. Full five j’accuse thumbs up!

Just when they most needed it they went and grabbed three points against Real Madrid. Wundergoal from Il Capitano and a great second by Amauri (after a nice run by the indomitable Pavel). Let’s not get too enthusiastic though – the injury list keeps growing, replacements are scarce and we cannot ignore the fact that once we were two nil up there were shades of the wasteful Juve of recent – prepared to concede the draw having shown that they are good enough to run away with the victory.
So. While I am overjoyed for Alex (Del Piero) and co I expect more of the same for the time being – more to make us fans suffer and hope for a team that can really dominate the proceedings. This weekend there’s the derby – another anomalous match that will not permit us to see what Juve’s current form really is – or maybe they need a hot fixture every week to live up to the occasion.
J’accuse is spending the day at home in the dark with a migraine. This has been my five minutes facing a computer.
This has been j’accuse… not reacting to Fausto so that you don’t have to. (dedicated to Alex)

Solo un capitano
The Old Lady returned to the spotlight of football yesterday night 896 days after her last match in the Champions’ League. The first test was never going to be easy and the opposition provided by Zenit St. Petersburg was tough, obstinate and resilient. The Russians too had their chances and it was thanks to one of the immortals of the Juve line up that the Juve goalpost was not breached. In the end a balanced match needed that “guizzo di fantasia” and who other than Pinturicchio to start the dances? All the anger of 896 days of undeserved purgatory was unleashed in a wonderful shot that first flew up into the Turin sky and then effected a magic curl dipping quickly down behind the hapless Zenit keeper.
The Juve game was still not the overpowering, all winning style that supporters expect but they bagged the three points, they broke their duck once again and are on track for a new adventure that might lead them to a familiar playground in Rome come the end of the competition. Besides that… the gods are back to play and they seem to be enjoying the fun!
Un capitano… c’è solo un capitaaaaaaaano!

Goodbye Beijing… hello London.

J’accuse had a series of posts entitled “When the Gods Come Down to Play”. We have featured the Selecao, we have featured Juventus. This though is a deity apart. Barring any nasty surprises from the drug testing department, this Showloving Giant from Jamaica has stolen the show. The eighth man to win both the 100m and the 200m sprints at the Olympics. The first to break both World Records at the same time.
The 200m final was breathtaking. The gap between Usain and the rest said it all. He is more than entitled to yell “I am number One” into the camera at the end of such a performance. That too is the beauty of Olympic Sports.
